STUDY TOURSThe Study Tours provide musicians, music educators, or anyone with an interest in West African music the opportunity to learn about the music of the Volta Region.
The Volta Region is an incredibly inspiring place for a musician to spend time — immersed in a culture where music—from Borborbor to Agbadza to Hiplife—infuses with every aspect of daily life, from work to play time, religious ceremonies, celebrations and funerals. The Study Tours will expose visiting musicians to a variety of new rhythms, cultural practices and styles of music with an opportunity to travel throughout the region and to witness performances from a range of cultural groups.

![]() My favourite part of the study tour was being part of the Tafi community, experiencing the different types of music and dancing that was so abundant and a part of everyday life. Every night there was music somewhere, whether a church service or bar, or live borborbor group, or a funeral. We were welcomed to the community so warmly and I really felt a part of Tafi. I found that being a part of this community really broadened my learning experience and I believe that I have made life long friends in Tafi.
-ADAM, January 2016 Study Tour Participant The TCI drum tutors were very obviously extremely talented musicians, and I enjoyed the ‘in at the deep end’ approach they had of just getting us playing along to the main Borborbor rhythms with them. That first week was particularly brilliant.
